THE STORY
THE RC IN RC CUSTOM BOOTS
STANDS FOR RUBEN COBOS

A MAN WHO IS FASCINATED WITH THE ART OF MAKING BOOTS. AS A YOUNG TEEN, HE STOOD WIDE-EYED OUTSIDE OF A LITTLE BOOT SHOP IN MEXICO WITH DREAMS OF WORKING IN IT. HE FULFILLED HIS DREAM OF WORKING THERE, AND THROUGH HARD WORK AND NO PAY, HE LEARNED THE PROCESS AND SKILL OF BOOT MAKING FROM START TO FINISH.

In 1962, at the age of 18, RC opened his own shop, “La Reyna Del Arte” (The Queen of Art). He began his business with only two employees, but as word spread about the unique elegance and durability of his boots, it expanded to 35 employees, making up to 80 pairs per week. Through ups and downs and big factories manufacturing low-cost boots with synthetic materials, RC has never lost the hope to keep doing what he loves – making boots.

Wearing a pair of boots is a lifestyle making them is an art.

LA REYNA DEL ARTE

In 2005, his daughter, Alejandra, moved to Lubbock, TX and RC suggested that she set up a booth in the local flea market. She took 12 pairs of boots, displayed on boxes, that first weekend and sold every single pair. Because of the toughness of the boots, working cowboys began to take interest in them and use them on a daily basis.

RC’s son, Iram, joined alongside him and started the trade of boot making. Fascinated with inlays and hand-tooled work, he learned to incorporate that on the boots. In 2006, RC and his family opened their storefront “RC Custom Boots” in Lubbock, TX. This family business keeps on growing and making boots for the whole family. Wearing a pair of boots is a lifestyle, but making them is an art. It’s a gift. It’s that illusion of imagining how that pair of boots will look once finished when they haven’t even been started yet. RC’s passion for the boots he makes runs deep.
